Jason Graves' Memorial

Jason Graves' Memorial

Filip and I set out for the Dallas suburb of Mansfield late Saturday morning.  We got close to the house where the memorial was held but Google maps really messed us up on the last mile or two.  We kept at it and eventually found our way there.  The main confusion (maybe it was ours and not Google's) was the difference between an actual highway and the business loop of the highway.

The service was very informal and well attended.  In keeping with Jason's wishes, the wine was flowing freely and everyone wore pink plaid.  Devri, Jason's sister, didn't tell us about the pink plaid request beforehand because she didn't want to scare off anyone but she did have ribbons for us to wear.

We all sat around sipping wine and chatting until we gathered in the living room to watch this memorial slideshow I made for the occasion.

The slideshow was well received and a lot of people got a good giggle out of some of the sillier photos of Jason.  I think it was nice that people, through their grief, allowed themselves to laugh at fond memories of a departed friend.  After the slideshow we sat around a while and told our favorite stories about Jason.  Well, actually we told our favorite clean stories about him in this forum and later, out of earshot of the elder relatives, told other stories.

Filip and I left shortly after 6:00 in order to drive back to Austin.  I really wanted to hang out longer and tie one on but we both had things to do on Sunday.

I spoke to Devri briefly about Jason's final resting place.  This was one detail I hadn't heard anything about.  He is to be cremated and scattered.
